STFU ABS-CBN
You read that right. Just shut the fuck up.
As I am out of town since Monday evening, I can only watch the news from ABS-CBN. On last night's edition, a full segment of around 5 minutes or more was devoted to a feature on how responsible ABS-CBN was in handling the hostage crisis. Yeah right, responsible. And while you're at it, why not throw a few self congratulatory phrases right in there.
No. No. ABS-CBN, you don't get to wash your hands off on this one. Airing live what could have possibly triggered the rampage of that madman is NOT RESPONSIBLE in any book. And this type of tabloid journalism is not exactly new to you. Just a few weeks ago, you were even airing the "martyrdom" of that carnapping a-hole and his akyat-bahay buddy. That too was responsible?
But lo and behold, just this morning, the infallible Karen Davila was grilling DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo on the poor tactics employed by the PNP. Alright fair enough. Monday morning quarterbacking is what journalists do, after all.
But let me ask, what did ABS-CBN do? Did you help or did you aggravate the situation? Ask that and let us see you answer. And one more thing, isn't Madame Zeva under your employ? Why didn't she predict this would happen? What? She's a fake? She is not really a psychic? So why does she get a full segment every morning -- on a NEWS PROGRAM? What the fuck ABS-CBN?
One saving grace, this morning on Umagang Kay Ganda, Anthony Taberna at least acknowledged that media should take part of the blame on this one. "Walang hugas kamay." Now that is responsible journalism.
You got it exactly right, Don Dee.
ReplyDeleteFcuking media hubris. Some of these people, in their smug self-righteousness and their sense of entitlement, act like they are God's gift to society.
Don't know if it was right or wrong, but as soon as i saw it, i thought showing the hostage-taker's kin getting arrested was a bad idea.
Excuse me while i puke some more.
Tang ina talaga!!!
ReplyDeleteOn my way home yesterday I made a stupid mistake of tuning in to DZMM (ABS CBN radio station).
Vic Lima was ribbing the PNP and was actually using the movie NEGOTIATOR as reference as to what the filed commander should have done. Meron pa siyang comment na ang galing ni Kevin Spacey. Tang na, malaman ni Kevin Spacey yun baka mahulog sa inuupuan nya yun eh. FUCK. That's right, let's ask the PNP watch hollywood movies as part of their training and requirement before sending to the field. What's next, ask LEON Guerrero (with his knife splitting bullet) to be the secretary of DILG? (come to think of it, that almost happened during the last administration).
Then Karen Davila practically said: if MEDIA were out of control why didnt the PNP ask them to STOP?
In other words, if I kill someone, its the PNP's fault because they didnt STOP ME.
Putang INA talaga!!!!
i missed the whole thing last monday. heard only about it tuesday morning when my mother mentioned it. were was i? in what planet? had a meeting the whole morning. worked on some reports in the pm. went home around 5 PM. drove home and tuned the whole world out from alabang to laguna. got home to find my nephews watching ALL of spiderman movies. this until kingdom come. surfed the net for a while before turning in at 11. yes, i think, media did it by overkilling it.
ReplyDelete@Bronze Athena: You were lucky up to that point. Ako rin sana if I didn't come home with the family and our visitor analyzing the situation in front of the TV.
ReplyDeleteThis is somewhat OT. i have some expat friends who, as Philippine residents, are just as embarrassed about the hostage tragedy because they believe that we are great people and our country is a good place to live in, but now their kin and friends overseas are questioning their judgment.
ReplyDeleteThe point is, even if an incident like this does happen elsewhere, on top of the negative news about us in the past, it has become the latest example of how screwed up we can be and created wider questions about us worldwide: what kind of a country is that? What kind of a government does it have? Why should we visit there? Why should we invest there? Why should we have anything to do with them? Why is that place so fkcued up? Why are they so corrupt? Why don't their politicians care? It becomes a bigger ball of wax, not just an isolated incident.
Maybe this sad event, seeing as it has focused international attention on us so acutely, could be an opportunity for us to renew our soul-searching and dig ourselves out of our hole.
Maybe i'm just having a bad day, but goddamn it all.
This morning on Umagang Kay Ganda, Karen Davila was again grilling a PNP official on the tragedy. Fair enough. I am not about to absolve these morons for what happened. I am just pissed with the "infallible" attitude the media is taking on. Davila asked, has the PNP found out yet who the madman was talking to on the phone before he went on the final rampage? Ok, good question. But maybe she should have also asked, what channel was that lunatic watching when the shootout happened. That would have been a better question.
ReplyDeleteAbout people wondering if Hong Kong (and not China) will declare war on the Philippines, I say: US lang ang gumagawa nang ganyang nanggigiyera por que namatayan.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather not throw more fuel to the fire. But these Hongkong nationals better get over this and soon. And try not to vent their frustrations on our innocent kababayans. Pinoys have never been racists. No Singaporean was harmed when Flor Contemplacion was hanged. They should always remember that. And also the fact that there as many Chinese nationals residing in the Philippines as there are Filipinos residing in Hongkong. Let's not go tit for tat. No one will come out the winner if that happens.
ReplyDeleteDon Dee, it's ok. If HK lost our domestic helpers (not that we want that), their economy would come to a stop.
ReplyDeleteSo it's a case of mutualism, each deriving a benefit from the other. It's always about the bottom line, especially for HK, i think.
Personally, i worry more about international perceptions of the new administration. As some people are beginning to say, rightly or wrongly, PNoy failed his first test.
But perception, as we know, is everything in these matters.
i'm having another bad day, so goddamn it all.
:-)
Finally, mainstream media picks up on it. http://opinion.inquirer.net/inquireropinion/editorial/view/20100827-289014/Black-day-for-media
